During the Nanjing Massacre, Charles Riggs, a key member of the International Committee for the Nanking Safety Zone, stood with the Chinese people and protected Chinese refugees.
86 years later, following Riggs' footsteps, his great-grandson Chris Hankin took a trip to explore Nanjing, in which he was appalled by the atrocities committed by the invading Japanese forces, but was more touched by the enduring gratitude from people in Nanjing and in China towards the international friends who once offered a helping hand.
From the trip, Chris found that history remains profoundly alive.
